2011 – SIDtastic! Volume 4: Jackson Michael & Oates

Posted by on Jan 27, 2011 in Discography, SIDtastic! | 0 comments

Volume 4 of my SIDtastic! collection is here!  This volume contains SID-a-fied nuggets from Michael Jackson, George Michael, and Hall & Oates, hence the title Jackson Michael & Oates.  Ha. Ha. Ha.  Most of these were completed during the summer of 1988, before my senior year of high school.  Two were done around Thanksgiving of that year, and two were completed in January of ’89.

If I had to pick favorites from this batch, they would be as follows:  Man in the Mirror, because I love the pristine bell reverb I was able to create for the opening.  Faith, as this cover is the polar opposite of the version Limp Bizkit would record 11 years later.  And finally, Adult Education.  No particular reason, I just happen to like it.

As with all of my SIDtastic! collections, please feel free to download any of the tracks you like.

Michael Jackson

I had originally planned on covering Michael Jackson’s entire Bad album, but for reasons forgotten to the mists of history, I never finished more than these four. Even with that Bad and Smooth Criminal were really more abandoned more than finished. They were ‘completed’, and have some interesting bits, but are very raw, especially Smooth Criminal which I envisioned as an epic cover.
1. Man in the Mirror
2. Another Part of Me
3. Bad
4. Smooth Criminal

George Michael

I’ll admit it, I love me some Wham!, and because of that I can’t help but to like George Michael. As successful as he was while partnered with Andrew Ridgley, George hit the motherload once he embarked upon his solo career. Choosing to cover I Want Your Sex and Faith are no brainers. Sadly I cannot explain Hand to Mouth. I honestly don’t remember this song, nor why I chose to cover it. I’ll have to take your opinion on whether or not it’s any good.
5. I Want Your Sex
6. Hand to Mouth
7. Faith

Hall & Oates

The masters of blue-eyed soul took a break from their roots when they embraced a more modern style in the early ’80′s by mixing some fantastic synth work into their more traditional rock and blues sound. Here are five of my favorite H&O tracks:
8. Adult Education
9. One on One
10. Maneater
11. Method of Modern Love
12. Out of Touch

My gratitude to photographer Herb Ritts for his iconic album cover from Michael Jackson’s Bad.
